Student Part-Time Jobs vs. Future Employment

Seniors face a different situation because they have to think about serious future employment. 

For many bachelor's students in the Czech Republic, the only opportunity to earn extra money is to find a good “brigade.” The classic brigade is a part-time job for a certain period of time that does not require special skills and training, for instance, work in supermarkets, warehouses, delivering letters and leaflets.

La Pasion: everybody dance

“I wanted it to personify the essence and spirit of a group,” she says. “Then I understood that passion is the word that describes us.”

Anglo-American University’s first dance team is seeking girls for whom dance is not just a word.

With the slogan “come and dance with us for fun and competitively,” the group aims to add something missing at AAU since its founding in 1990. This semester, law student Dajana Imenova got the idea of creating a dance crew when she first enrolled.

“Life is dance,” she says. “A good dance group is the face of the university.” In February Imenova won approval from the Student Council.

AAU delegates show firm resolution at Harvard Model UN

“We did quite well,” says Sandilya. “I wouldn’t say we were super successful but we did quite well.”

Anglo-American University was the only Czech University to send a delegation to the 57th Harvard Model United Nations Conference in Boston in February.

The group was larger and more successful than the one last year, with AAU students spending two weeks in the United States. Model UN conference aside, four of them met the Andorran ambassador at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Anglo-American grants pay hike for working students

Starting February 1, 2009, Anglo-American University will increase wages for working students from 75 crowns per hour to 85 crowns.
Lenka Turečková, the AAU's operations manager, said this is the first student wage hike in approximately two years.
"We want to motivate students, meet their needs," she said.
With the economic situation deteriorating, more and more students are expected to be attracted to working on campus, where they can cover their living costs without interfering with their class schedules.

Student jobs don't grow on trees

The university has no written policy on hiring students nor does it mention student jobs in the catalog nor were any mentioned in student services emails sent during the last year.
