After shaking up Prague for ten days, from 6 to 15 March, the One World Documentary Film Festival and before moving on to towns including Brno, Liberec, Plzen and 36 other places, AAU students talk about their experience as visitors.

After shaking up Prague for ten days, from 6 to 15 March, the One World Documentary Film Festival whose major theme is “youth quake” moves further in the Czech Republic, to towns including Brno, Liberec, Plzen and 36 other places. The festival will continue with its mission – to build awareness, educate, initiate public debates and promote social inclusion.

This week Prague's 14th One World film festival opens. Focussing on human rights, it is the biggest of its kind in Europe. Director Hana Kulhánková explains what it is about.

 

From March 6 to March 15, human rights issues from around the world come to Prague in the form of the 14th annual One World film festival, organized by the NGO People in Need.

Every hour every time of the year crowds of tourists gather on Prague's Old Town Square to videotape, photograph and look at the Astronomical Clock's little show. A look at what's there they still may not see.

A group of Czech elementary school kids is having lunch break on the curb. They are facing hundreds of foreign tourists staring at Prague's Astronomical Clock. Everyone's here to see the show. After enjoying the party atmosphere for the first half of the cruise, junior English major William Smith said, “I was ready to leave. And this was a problem since swimming to shore was not an option for me.”

Anglo-American University students gave mixed reviews of the Student Council-administered snow themed summer boat party with disc jockeys from Dance Radio Sept. 16.

The "Summer Snow Boat Party" on the open-air ship Tyrs, cruising along the Vltava River, made for a chilly evening.

How much will AAU have to change its academic standards to better suit those CEA requires?

Anglo-American University’s students can look forward to seeing more exchange students from the U.S due to a special global partnership agreement Anglo-American University has in place with the Arizona-based CEA study abroad program.

AAU’s full-time students have yet to find out what this really means for their academic future, but the influx is not always welcome by locals, it seems.

The school offers different types scholarship: The merit-based grant requires them to maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and to complete eight courses over the last two semesters. The need-based scholarship, meanwhile, helps students who have to deal with changing financial circumstances.

Starting February 1, 2009, Anglo-American University will increase wages for working students from 75 crowns per hour to 85 crowns.
Lenka Turečková, the AAU's operations manager, said this is the first student wage hike in approximately two years.
"We want to motivate students, meet their needs," she said.
With the economic situation deteriorating, more and more students are expected to be attracted to working on campus, where they can cover their living costs without interfering with their class schedules.

The facility's new location, at the corner of Letenska and U Luzickeho seminare, offers a greatly expanded space and more openness, if a 5-minute walk from school. AAU is trying to cater to students and make changes to keep up with surrounding schools, says Michael LeMoine, Student Council president, as well as a worker in the library.

Breanne Toney, a CEA study abroad student at AAU, used the website votefromabroad.org to register for her absentee ballot. "I thought that the website was very accessible... it was really a one-stop shop for all the information you need."
