Stanislav Lahoda is not a very well known name. But his works decorate interiors all over the world. He is a Czech painter and sells his pictures in the historical heart of Prague, on the Charles Bridge.
His story sounds like a fairy tale: Lahoda wanted to become a painter from the time he was a small boy. But during the communist era he was not allowed to study art and could never officially present or sell his works. Instead, he worked in a factory and painting remained just a hobby.
In years past, cities like Barcelona and Florence have consistently trumped Prague as a popular study abroad destination for American students. Now, after a nearly five-fold increase over the last five years, it seems the Czech capital's catching up fast.
