Dissident and former president Václav Havel dies aged 75

Today playwright dissident and the president Václav Havel died aged 75. Havel was a signatory of Charta 77 and one of the leaders of the movement that led to the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Then he became president of Czechoslovakia and in 1993 the first democratically elected president of the Czech Republic. Despite surgery because of lung cancer in 1996 he stayed in the position until 2003.

King finds Czech roots in East Bloc revolution

In November, Fredo Arias King, a Mexican political scientist lectured an enthralled audience on revolutionary youth and transitions to democracy in Eastern Europe, a talk that was at the last moment renamed to Czechoslovakia and Collapse of the Soviet Bloc.

In November, Fredo Arias King, a Mexican political scientist lectured an enthralled audience on revolutionary youth and transitions to democracy in Eastern Europe, a talk that was at the last moment renamed to Czechoslovakia and Collapse of the Soviet Bloc.
Being a quarter Czech, King said that "Czechs themselves think that they are not good enough." However, his presentation offered definite proof against this.
