Student Council has a pleasure to invite you to the Second Annual International Students Day!

Because AAU is so internationally diverse we should take the most advantage of this. We would like everyone to share their own culture with the rest of the AAU students in a fun and educational competition.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 23 November from 17:30 to 19:00

We invite all students to apply and present their countries.

Among community barricades at an international school, language barriers are surely a key contributor. Especially when the national language seems to lack the use of vowels in words and the rolling effect of the hacek could make a non-native speaker lose their gum.

Anglo-American University attracts students and staff from all corners of the globe, which results in its quirky culture. Being a Canadian born with a Czech last name - and someone who is often mistaken for an American exchange student - I can school you on the top five issues I’ve observed going into my second semester. But I have also realized that it is these issues that make our school an experience different from any other.

Translation is more than just finding the equivalent of a word in another language; it's about interpreting the information we hear and read and adapting it to our existing knowledge.

Those were the opening words at the seventh annual Normal-Abnormal colloquium at AAU, spoken by the event's organizer, AAU instructor Eva Eckert. The words are also particularly relevant to AAU students, she said

AAU student Chris Hartland said that there are more acute problems  for the administration to deal with. "For me it is just a place to work with really unreliable Internet. Also, for a library it has very little light," he said, "ironically, making it hard to read books. "

On March 4 the AAU library hosted a musical performance for the first time. Gentry Bronson calls himself a troubadour and dedicates his songs to what he calls the "unsung heroes" of everyday life. His concert of piano ballads at the library was part of his European tour. Afterwards the audience was welcome to join the artist and his friends for drinks at Watermill on Kampa, 10 minutes from the venue.

Almost 200 CEA students enrolled into Anglo-American University this spring. With a normal student size 500, the mixing of students from different cultures within such small class sizes can be a challenge.

Mason Truluck unknowingly began to take advantage of her study abroad experience on the first day of class. She missed the day when her class divided up groups for presentations, leaving her to be a part of a multicultural group. She accepted the challenge. “This group project forces me to step outside of my comfort zone,” Truluck said.
